Five Things You've Got To Do While Visiting the North Georgia Mountains

When visiting the North Georgia Mountains our guests here at Cabin Rentals of Georgia always ask us, "What is there to do in Blue Ridge?" To help, here are five things we think are a must for the entire family or for a couple on their honeymoon to enjoy.

1. Take a Canopy Tour: Climb up, clip in, and zip through one of the area's hottest new attractions. Soar over the scenic Blue Ridge mountains from treetop sky towers along ziplines, suspension bridges, and more as you zip, walk and climb your way through some awesome family adventure. No one hangs out in the trees like the people at The Blue Ridge Canopy Adventure.

2. Pick Some Berries: Enjoy sweet, juicy strawberries you pick yourself! Mercier Orchards features a variety of U-Pick crops throughout the year, so check their website to see what's in season. While you're there, enjoy a delicious lunch before taking home some fresh fried pies. The fried apple pies are the best!

3. Saddle Up: There's no better way to experience our spring beauty than on a relaxing trail ride. Saddle up for a 1 or 1.5 hour ride on a gentle, well-trained horse with Adventure Trail Rides

4. Soar in a Helicopter: See our beautiful mountains and attractions from the best vantage point around...500 feet above the ground! Up to 3 passengers can take a tour starting at just $40 per person. Enjoy the views like never before with Blue Ridge Helicopters

5. Go Gem Mining: Whether you're a die-hard rockhound or a first time miner, you'll love the valuable gems and stones you can uncover. Head to Historic Downtown Blue Ridge and visit Huck's Lost Mine and try your luck at finding emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and tiger's eye, just to name a few.

Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race

Ready, set, go!

Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race date is April 14, 2012

Cabin Rentals of Georgia and The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race invite you to the 15th annual triathalon, North Georgia Mountain-Style. Paddle the Toccoa River, run through the woods and mountain bike to participate in a challenge of a lifetime!

As we enter into the 15th year of all that celebrates friendly athletic competition, enabling us to strive to push ourselves to limits that we never thought we could attain -- we invite all serious weekend, amateur and past-your-prime athletes to come to Blue Ridge to have the time of your life. No need to travel to Kona, Hawaii for the Iron Man Triathalon, save a little gas and a lot of money and drive to Blue Ridge, where you can begin your Great Adventure. Find a bit of running through the woods intimidating? No, then move on. . . How about paddling upstream in a canoe like salmon spawning? Still no fear? Then jump on that mountain bike and fly downhill with nothing between you and a bad case of road rash but some wimpy brakes probably manufactured overseas? OK! You qualify as a prime candidate for the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race. What you can expect during the experience: **Fresh Air**Sunshine (or maybe Rain)**Friendly People who say “Yes Sir,” “Yes Ma’am” and an occasional Y’all”**Maybe even a “Sorry, Dude” after running you into the ground on the mountain bike challenge.**Bluegrass or Country Music Blasting from a rusted out Chevy**A toothless woman checking out your groceries (but her nails are immaculate!)**Go-lights vs. Stop-lights (after all, it is just a matter of perspective.) And more!

In all seriousness, Cabin Rentals of Georgia does offer premium luxury cabin rentals for your weekend or week-long enjoyment in the most idyllic locations in Blue Ridge. Father and Son Fishing in The Blue Ridge Mountains

Fly Fishing, Toccoa River, Blue Ridge Mountains, Cabin Rentals of Georgia

Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”
- Henry David Thoreau.

Special father and son activities abound in Blue Ridge, the activity and adventure epicenter of the North Georgia Mountains.  With the advent of gorgeous spring weather consisting of sunny skies with occasional afternoon thunder showers, cool mornings and extended days providing light well into the evening, Cabin Rentals of Georgia invite you to get away from the X-boxes and the Play Stations and breathe some fresh air while trying to perfect the art of landing those ever-elusive trout.  We offer several properties with direct access to Toccoa River frontage as well as luxury cabins for catch-and-release fishing on both the Noontootla and Wilscot Creeks.  Cabin Rentals of Georgia will be happy to arrange to have these properties stocked with trout upon your arrival, delivered by Bramlett’s Trout Farm in Suches, a small town close to Blue Ridge.  This will ensure a healthy population of fish for you and your son when you arrive.

Spending quiet time to bond, to share in your son’s dreams, concerns and questions while enjoying an activity which allows for solitude and focus that will be a bonding experience to last a lifetime.  Unforgettable moments, successes as well as the “one” that got away, are yours for the making.  The common goal of simply catching fish puts father and son on an even field, yet the mature qualities of patience, wisdom and compassion that only a father can provide come into play.  With all evidence pointing to the sad truth that many young men have social problems when there is not a strong father figure to guide them, we invite you to cherish your relationship with your boys, and maybe even a few of his friends without that male role model.  You will never be unhappy when helping others.

"To go fishing is the chance to wash one's soul with pure air, with the rush of the brook, or the shimmer of sun on blue waters.  It  brings meekness and inspiration from the decency of nature, charity toward tackle-makers, patience toward fish, a mockery of profits and egos, an equality in the discipline of men  - for all men are equal before fish."   - Herbert Hoover, 31st US President

Four North Georgia Mountain Fairways You Need to Find!

Fore!  Heads up golfers!  Not that we at Cabin Rentals of Georgia claim to be anything other than amateur hacks, but roughly half our staff are quite adept at wielding those irons, whether Joe is renting a cart with his buddies and carefully securing that cooler with heavy-duty bungees, or perhaps its our boss man, Gary, who is enjoying deep discussions with his favorite Speaker of the House, David Ralston, while improving his handicap.  There remains unanimous agreement that there is a lot to offer north of Atlanta that would tempt any individual who is dire need of expanded lung capacity to make those miraculous hole-in-ones.  With the clean air and spectacular scenery of the North Georgia Mountains, and these four undiscovered gems you will have to return to conquer, we guarantee it is worth the trip.  Make the short drive to Blue Ridge after work on Friday to one of our fabulously comfortable and luxuriously appointed cabins such as The River's Edge or Eagles Landing, and you will be ready for your 18-holes on Saturday.  Relax and unwind in the hot tub or on one of our expansive decks featuring outdoor fireplaces with the boys that evening and be up early enough for another 9 the next morning before heading back for Sunday night dinner with the family.  Cabin Rentals of Georgia is centrally located so you can taste test more than one course on the same weekend!  Have fun making the rounds!

Your four choices of fairways to discover, are all within a short 25 minutes from Blue Ridge:

Old Union Golf Course

For those of us who play public golf this is great news, because Old Union was originally slated as a high-end private facility intended to serve two upscale residential communities north of Blairsville.  Now, this wonderful new Georgia course is open to the public, and its a real gem.  The course's new owners are the folks who designed and built it so ongoing maintenance is held to a stringent standard.  Though it is brand new, Old Union appears to have been in place forever and provides golfers of all stripes a challenging and enjoyable round of golf.  The layout is excellent, with ample landing areas, generous trees and well-placed bunkering.  There is sharp-edged mounding around the bunkers and greens as well as in stand-alone mounds strategically placed along many fairways.  Despite the refined design, there are expansive natural areas and a certain wildness to the property which is not found in metro-area courses.

Butternut Creek Golf Course:

Variety is the best description of Butternut Creek Golf Course, which features a combination of rolling valley holes and challenging mountain slopes with mountain views from all 18 holes on the course. Each hole is unique - not a single hole is remotely similar to another.  A hidden treasure, it will not remain under the radar for long.  Truly one of the best courses the North Georgia Mountains has to offer, Butternut Creek Golf Course sits in downtown Blairsville below beautiful Ivy Log Mountain. Butternut Creek plays to a modest 6,500+ yards, but 4 to 6 tee boxes on every hole give challenging options for every player. Water comes into play on 13 holes for those unrecovered shots that every course must claim.  Challenging mounds, undulating greens, and elevation changes are found throughout the course.

Whitepath Golf Club

Whitepath Golf Club is truly a golf enthusiast's dream.  Beautiful rolling terrain and long range views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and the Cohutta Wilderness area make this course one of the most enjoyable and picturesque golf courses in the North Georgia Mountains.  The course offers small, fast bent grass greens that are meticulously maintained for your golf game.  This golfer's paradise is a public course located 5 miles north of Ellijay, Georgia, just an hour and a half north of Atlanta.  The golf course itself is a reflection of the mountains which surround it.  Whitepath Lake, covering eight acres and the Ellijay River highlight several other creeks and ponds making it a water-rich course.  Designed by Rocky Roquemore and Joe Lee the course is challenging to the low handicap golfer, yet friendly to those with higher handicaps.

Copper Basin Golf Club

Copper Basin Golf Club is a beautiful course located in the town of Isabella, with fairways featuring gentle slopes with varying elevations and widths.  The course is picturesque, surrounded by hardwoods, pines and colorful crepe myrtles. Beautiful views are enjoyed from every hole in the course.  The pace is slow and the staff is friendly.  The course is designed for the golfer who prefers to walk and take in the fresh air and enjoy the quiet sounds of nature while contemplating the next shot.  Because of its small town nature, you will never find the course congested, yet frequent tournaments are scheduled for those who enjoy making new golf buddies and want to experience that spirit of friendly competition with players of every level.

Check that calendar and call us at (706) 632-2264 when you find that free weekend.  Cabin Rentals of Georgia will reserve you the closest cabin to the course of you choice - filled with every imaginable amenity and comfort for your down time.

NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS ADRENALINE RUSH!

Hey guys - are you feeling the need for speed?   How about an increase in heart-rate not brought on by near misses on the freeway or an irate boss?  Desiring to push-the-limits without the possible negative side effect of losing your job?  Tired of the cubicle, that stifling environment that dulls the senses, hurts the back and generally contributes to atrophy of the spirit and mind, not to mention dissolving all those muscles that you work so hard to try to regenerate during those infrequent trips to the gym.  Well, frequent for some, but even that can become monotonous and uneventful, right?

We at Cabin Rentals of Georgia are just asking - are you ready for a man-cation?  Or a bit of man-tripping?  Wouldn't it be nice if you could leave work on Friday, drive a short distance and become a whole new you breathing fresh air, expanding your horizons, experiencing new challenges and be back to work on Monday without breaking the bank?  Well, you can!

Would you like to soar to new heights at dizzying speeds, or race across invigorating waters?  Or maybe you prefer to keep your feet on the ground but definitely want to try something new.  If any of these scenarios sound like they might make your weekend just a wee bit more exciting, we definitely have options.  Whether you are in Atlanta or Chattanooga, or any of the surrounding metro areas, you are within a couple hours of Blue Ridge, Georgia, home to Adrenaline Rush Activities.

For the air jockey, check out the newest in zip line adventures or see the spectacular beauty and sights of the Blue Ridge Mountains from a private helicopter tour.  Water sports can reach new levels without serious commitment in purchasing water vessels - just check out Young Harris Water Sports, which will deliver your boat or jet ski rental to either Lake Nottely or Lake Blue Ridge (Cabin Rentals of Georgia offers luxury cabins for your use near both).  For those who want to move on your own effort, kayaking and canoeing are popular sports.

For the more grounded individual, endless hiking trails are found around Aska Adventure and Rich Mountain Wilderness Areas.  Mountain biking doesn't get any better than in the North Georgia Mountains, SORBA will provide all the information and maps you will need and you can rent your bike once you get here from one of our excellent bicycle shops here in Blue Ridge, or, of course, bring your own.

For icing on the cake, indulge your down time grilling and lounging in one of Cabin Rentals of Georgia's upscale luxury cabins; may we suggest Outlaw Ridge or The River's Edge?  Both properties are very guy-friendly, with extraordinary game rooms to meet every taste; from foosball to billiards to  movies to huge decks and hot tubs. . .all with spectacular views high above the Toccoa River and riverside activities to wind down the long weekend like tubing or fishing.  Stay up too late around a campfire and eat too many dogs and burgers - you deserve it.

More weekends like this, and you never know, you may just start enjoying your life again.  We will see you soon!
