Family Getaway to Atlanta from Blue Ridge, GA
Tue, 03/01/2011

Our family came down to ATL from Blue Ridge in order to get our "city fix". It's always exciting to see the progress of the Old 4th Ward revitalization. We've waited a long time for it, and now we are able to enjoy all the area has to offer. Things we did this trip:

1. Ate at Ria's Bluebird Cafe - NY Times has rated their pancakes some of the very best. Best breakfast we've had! Directions: from house go west up to Boulevard. Turn Left. Stay on Boulevard to Memorial. Turn Right. Less than a mile, Bluebird Cafe is on Left, across the street from Historic Oakland Cemetery.

2. After breakfast at Bluebird Cafe we walked across the street to the Historic Oakland Cemetery - grave stones as far back as the Civil War. Margaret Mitchell's grave (author of Gone With the Wind). Bobby Jones' grave (one of the most famous golfers in history), and other interesting historical grave sites.

3. We took many walks down to the Park - cross Glen Iris and walk to the end. Great waterfalls, fountains, walking paths

4. Ate dinner at Pure - fantastic casual Mexican food place - great food & friendly service. Nice outdoor eating area.

5. Had dinner/dessert a couple of times at our favorite classy restaurant 4th & Swift, located at Glen Iris 7 North Ave. We usually walk there. Jay Swift is owner/chef and his place is rated one of the top 10 in ATL & one of the top restaurants in the country.

6. Ate dinner one night at Gekko's Sushi - on the corner of Glen Iris & North Ave. GREAT sushi & very reasonably priced.

All in all, it was a fun burst down to our house, and we hope that all who stay here enjoy all that Atlanta & this area has to offer!

Wonderful Girls Getaway

Dear Gary & Lissa,

My Family and I have TRULY enjoyed our stay at your home!! From the moment we walked in, we knew this was the home for us. Such a pleasant and quiet stay. We loved the recommendations that you gave. The BlueBird was great!! My mother is an interior decorator and she LOVED the furnishings & decor. This has OVERALL been one of our favorites. We travel a lot and visit many vacation homes, but we will most definitely be back to Atlanta to the URBAN RETREAT!! Thanks Again

Great Girls Weekend at Urban Retreat

Dear Gary & LIssa,

Your home is more beautiful in person than on the VRBO listing. What a great choice we made staying here. We loved how close it is to all the Atlanta attractions. Some of the fun things we did with our girls ages 7 & 10 were:

First Day: CNN Tour - awesome & informative, Lunch at Boogie Burger in Centennial Park, Coke Tour - fun to look at Coke's past and beautiful collectible memorabilia. The kids enjoyed tasting coke's other drinks from around the world. Dinner at Peasant Bistro on Park next to the Embassy Suites & Centennial Park. Absolutely delicious.

Day Two: Fernbank Natural History Museum - What a great spot for kids. Interactive displays, dinosaurs, a "new" nature's quest children's exhibit. Lunch at Mary Mac's Tea Room. Serving southern cuisine food since 1945. This was a real treat. Be sure to go "hungry" the portions are huge. Walked the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. They have an amazing orchid conservatory. The weather was perfect for this, but only some of the plants were starting to bloom. Dinner at Pure Taqueia in Inman. They have a casual enviroment and good good.

Day Three: Center for Puppetry Arts - great history of puppets and Jim Hanson's "muppets". We also bought tickets for a show. The Georgia Aquarium - Wow, Wow, Wow!! Drove to see Federal Reserve Bank money museum. It's 1 of 12 in the U.S.

What a great time in Atlanta. The sites, food and coming home each night to stay in your lovely home made our trip great. Thank You!

Amazing Family Getaway to Atlanta

Amazing house! Last year we rented a home with Home Away in the Atlanta area and it was a dud, so I was pretty nervous about our Atlanta trip this year. We hit the jackpot with "Urban Retreat" - beautiful and comfortable home in a great location. We came to Atlanta for a combs tourist/family trip. We spent a lot of time hanging out at the house. My parents are really into home remodeling so got a kick out of all of the homes and apartments in the area. We went to the Oakland cemetery. Ga Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta and World of Coke. My 15 month old son loved the nearby playground - the path overall is amazing - such a great facility. We had a lot of meals at the house. The six burner stove is amazing and the kitchen is well stocked. We ate at Ria's Bluebird Cafe. Also ate at Willie's - a chipotle knock off that was on the edge of Piedmont Park so very nice to waddle around the path after eating huge burritos. Also got takeout from the Varsity and Fox's BBQ. Diet starts as soon as we get home! Again, we so enjoyed our stay here - beautifully decorated home, very nice and comfortable, and super location.
