River Loop Trail is a 3.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Oak Hill, Georgia that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
The River Loop is one of the oldest mountain bike trails in northern Georgia. Built with assistance from local riders and the Georgia DNR, the trail utilizes gated forest road, old forest roadbed, and singletrack in a loop configuration. The loop was also one of the first race courses in the state, and is still used as such at least once a year. The middle part of the loop parallels the Cartecay River, with several scenic spots for a dip, or just gazing at the natural beauty of the river. Although relatively close to town and civilization, you can sit by the river and feel like you’re miles away from anywhere. And after all, isn’t that the mark of a great trail? The River Loop does just that—it follows a loop along the banks of the Cartecay River.
