Now that summer vacation is in full swing, it's time to keep the kids entertained! A family trip to Blue Ridge is just the thing. In addition to many great outdoor activities like hiking and whitewater rafting, the Blue Ridge Mountains have a lot to offer for family friendly outings. We've created a sample itinerary for a quick kid-friendly hack.

The One Size Fits Most Cabin

Above the Timberline fits most - if not all - of the usual familial needs: it's a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath with a maximum occupancy of 8 guests. 4 pillow-top king beds, 5 TVs, a fully equipped kitchen with steel appliances, decorated with luxe furnishings, light fixtures, and accessories. Unique movie seating and a wall of windows in the living room brings the outdoors in with its stunning mountain views and ever-changing skyscapes as you watch the clouds roll over the mountains creating fleeting shadows over the mountains. It’s enough to make you feel that you are a million miles away from the daily grind.

Aska Gem Mining

Come join us for a fun filled day of gem mining and tubing the Toccoa River. Easy to find location across from Shallowford Iron Bridge, 8 miles up Aska road. When you drive up Aska road, look for the Iron Bridge and you will know you have a arrived at the newest gem mining site. Look for hidden treasures as you sift through our mining troughs. Enjoyable for all ages, no guided tours necessary! 

Allow time to stop by our beautiful gift shop. It rocks!!

Lilly Pad Village

Finding family fun Blue Ridge, GA things to do is so easy in the Aska Adventure Area and at The Lilly Pad! Experience Gem Mining, Fishing, Miniature Golf, friendly staff, beautiful property, kids and pet friendly environment, picnic tables and a fun destination. Located off Aska Road just 8 miles from Downtown Blue Ridge. The Lilly Pad is a true destination for families designed around a beautiful mountain setting with picturesque views and the sounds of nature in the North Georgia Mountains. A light alternative in the Aska Adventure Area, which also has riding trails, general stores, and accommodates other interesting areas such as the Blue Ridge Dam and the Swinging Bridge with Long Creek Falls.

Swan Drive In

One of three remaining drive-in theaters in Georgia, the Swan Drive-In Theater offers a unique taste of the past with current first-run movies.

You can enjoy a movie outside under the stars or in the privacy of your car. The Swan Drive-In is equipped with FM stereo sound where patrons use their car radio or even a portable radio to tune in. It is family oriented and bad behavior is not tolerated. The Swan Drive-In operates year round with current first run movies. Motor homes and RVs are welcome; however, there are no hook-ups. We have a full concession.

The Older Family

Vertigo Pinball

Looking for a fun activities for your teens or for the whole family? Enjoy Blue Ridge, GA's new popular and exciting venue, Vertigo Pinball! Offering pinball machines dating back to the 1990's all the way to current. No tokens, quarters, or dollar bills. Buy a wristband and play a few hours, all day, all weekend - the choice is yours! Enjoy unique eats - fancy grilled cheese, paninis, and more - regional beers, wine, and cider - Coke, Sprite, Lemonade and Water. 

2nd Story Entertainment

2nd Story Entertainment is an indoor family fun center featuring a full 18 hole unique mini-golf course weaving in and out of 8 individually themed rooms of a 112 year old hotel. Also, on the golf course are other games such as a giant connect 4, giant checkers and two magnetic dart boards.

In addition to mini-golf, they also have arcade games such as Air Hockey, Ms. Pacman, Big Buck Hunter and more. Additional games arriving soon.

Light refreshments such as water, sodas and ice cream available to enjoy in the arcade rooms or outside deck. 

Mercier Orchards

Mercier Orchards is the largest apple orchard in Georgia (200 acres!), and it’s also Southern Living magazine’s favorite “roadside apple market,” according to a 2002 article. Your trip to Fannin County just isn’t complete without a visit to Mercier’s for one of their scrumptious fried apple pies. They open at 8:00 a.m., and there’s just no better way to start your day than with one (or two!) of their pies and fresh apple cider. Mercier also lets you pick your own apples on weekends in September, complete with a wagon ride to and from the orchards -- a kid friendly thing to do in Blue Ridge, GA.

Appalachian Trail Rides

Guided horseback trail riding from beginner to advanced through the Blue Ridge mountains for some fun family activity. Located minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, horseback riding trails have breathtaking mountain views, creek crossings, trails alongside lakes, and possible wildlife sightings, with experienced guides that are family oriented. You will be horseback riding on their 250 acre farm of pristine private land in Mineral Bluff, Georgia.
