Local Highlight: Blue Ridge Turkey Trot

The Blue Ridge Turkey Trot is an annual, friendly 5K race, and a favorite activity of locals and visitors alike. A family event enjoyed by all ages, speeds, and abilities, the Turkey Trot is a fun and charitable way to kick off Thanksgiving day. From families with very small children to competitive athletes, everyone is sure to have a good time while giving back. All funds raised are donated to Blue Ridge charities, and participants are asked to bring a canned or non-perishable food donation item with them to the event.

Join the fun at Downtown Park on Main Street this Thanksgiving morning. Registration starts at 7:00 AM, with the race beginning at 8:00 AM. The race will start in front of the downtown Blue Ridge children’s park on East Main and Church Street. (Get directions here.) You can register online or bring $30 in cash or a check and your food donation to register in person the morning of the race. Though walking and jogging are fun ways to enjoy this event, there will be medals awarded to the top three male and female finishers. There is also a best-dressed award, so get creative! Water and post-race snacks will be provided.
