U-Pick Orchards open up for the month of October. U-pick orchards are opportunities for people to go into orchards and handpick either a peck or a bushel of locally grown apples. Apple varieties range from Ozark Golds, Red Delicious, Honey Crisps, Mutsu, Rome Beauties, Granny Smiths, and Fuji or Braeburns - Georgia has quite the variety!

Blue Ridge Mountain apple festival orchards that offer ya'll a long weekend apple pickin' road trip include:

Mercier Orchards - Mercier Orchards is the largest apple orchard in Georgia (200 acres!), and it’s also Southern Living magazine’s favorite “roadside apple market,” according to a 2002 article. Whatever you do, you have to indulge in these North Georgian fried pies. They are the best, hands down! Mercier's is also MUCH more than an Apple Orchard, offering a wonderful specialty shop featuring unique North Georgia Mountain town gifts and merchandise. Just on up the road from the Toccoa River, Chattahoochee National Forest, and the Brasstown Bald in the North GA mountains.
